Samsung recently patented a dual slider phone, featuring both front and rear cameras, and a large speakerphone at the bottom.
Earlier this month, we reported on a new Samsung smartphone in the Galaxy A series with a rotating camera feature. With this design, you can take selfies as well as record movies and photos as well. Moreover, this solution will help smartphones have a full screen design, without holes, rabbit ears or any other defects. This could be a good solution to replace the rotating camera of the Galaxy A80 that was released before. It is possible that this new technology will be applied to its successor, the Galaxy A82 5G, which is expected to appear later this year.
However, a new patent shows that Samsung seems to be pondering many options for the camera mechanism on the Galaxy A82. This time, the Korean manufacturer filed a patent for a two-headed slider smartphone. The camera is built into the slider, so no camera will be visible when not in use.
Samsung’s new smartphone will have two-sided sliding mechanism
A new Samsung Electronics patent was filed with USPTO (U.S. Patent and Trademark Office) in mid-2020. As of January 28, 2021, this patent has been approved and included in the database. WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) materials to protect technology worldwide.
According to the document in the patent, the new device will have a dual slide mechanism. In other words, this Samsung handset can slide in both directions up and down. Various components are integrated in the slider, including the front camera and the three rear cameras. There’s also a large speakerphone, which can be activated via the slide below.
To make it easier to imagine, thankfully, designer Sarang Sheth worked with LetsGoDigital to create a render of the product based on images in a Samsung Electronics patent. TechMody would like to share it for readers to follow.
How the Samsung slider phone works
By sliding the front down, the selfie camera will appear. And when we slide up, we will see the three main camera system on the back. Of course, due to the large part of the slide, Samsung may integrate additional sensors if needed, such as a flash or laser focus sensor.
When the camera is exposed, the front also has the appearance of a large speaker system below. This is an ideal design for music or movie fanatics. Loud speakers are sure to deliver a good audio experience. These are the best for Samsung to take advantage of, with the audio tuned by AKG, a Samsung subsidiary since 2017. Since the acquisition of its parent group Harman International Industries, all electric models High-end Galaxy phones are equipped with AKG sound technology with very high quality.
Thanks to the dual-slider system, the entire front of the device is the display, of course only when you don’t slide the device. The patent also shows that this phone will have a flat screen. This is a reasonable choice with this sliding mechanism, not to mention Samsung is also using more flat screens on its products.
Advantages and disadvantages of the two-headed sliding design
Dual slider phones can offer a number of advantages to the user. Owning a slider phone will look cooler, not to mention that users can experience full screen, without holes or rabbit ears.
Another advantage, that is the speakerphone. The significantly larger size compared to current phone models will result in better sound quality.
However, this design also has some disadvantages. Such a system will certainly take up quite a lot of machine space. This is a problem that most manufacturers have had over the years. Bigger batteries, better chipsets, new sensors… all take up space, but we still need a device that’s compact and handy.
In addition, the durability of this phone is also worth considering. Such sliding systems are very susceptible to dirt, adversely affecting the performance of equipment over time.
Samsung Galaxy A82 5G
It is known that Samsung has been preparing for the launch of the Galaxy A82 5G this year. Galaxy A80, launched in 2019, is still the only Samsung smartphone with a rotating camera and a flawless display.
Galaxy A81 never appeared, so it is expected that Galaxy A82 will be the successor of the A80 after two years of release. However, it is unclear whether the new Galaxy A82 will have a rotating camera like its predecessor, or will be a sliding camera as in this article. Wait for it.
